The Local SEO Checklist Every Service Business Should Run In 2026
A practical, no-fluff local SEO checklist to help service businesses rank in Google Maps, attract calls, and convert local searchers.
If your phone isn't ringing from Google, your local SEO is the first place to look. Most service businesses leave easy wins on the table — incomplete profiles, missing citations, and pages that don't actually target local intent.
This checklist is the same one we run for clients on our Local Visibility Growth Plan. Use it as a foundation, then layer on content and conversion optimization.
1. Optimize your Google Business Profile
Claim your profile, choose the most accurate primary category, and fill in every field — services, hours, service areas, photos, and FAQs. Add weekly posts and respond to every review within 24 hours.
2. Make sure your NAP is consistent everywhere
Name, Address, Phone — identical across your website, GBP, Bing Places, Apple Maps, Yelp, and major directories. Inconsistencies confuse Google and erode trust.
3. Build location-specific landing pages
Generic 'Services' pages rarely rank for city + service queries. Create dedicated pages per city you serve with unique content, testimonials from that area, and structured data.
4. Earn reviews on a consistent cadence
Automate review requests after a job is complete. Reviews remain one of the strongest local ranking and conversion signals.
